Friday, 7th December 2007, “Nativity Scenes”
8pm at Christ Church, Convent Road
The Bangkok Music Society Choir is pleased to present its annual Christmas Concert. The title of this year’s performance is Nativity Scenes and the programme features the following main pieces:
- Laud to the Nativity by Ottorino Respighi, accompanied by 2 flutes, oboe, English horn, 2 bassoons and 4-hand piano. Catherine Sam Harsono will sing the part of the Angel and Dana Garnett will sing the part of Mary. This romantic and sensitive setting of a text from a 13th-century laude by Franciscan poet Jacopone da Todi is a beautiful pastoral work that depicts the nativity of Jesus as the shepherds might have seen it. If you enjoy Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors you are sure to find this work rewarding and satisfying.
- Many other Christmas and Holiday favorites, including “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “Carol of the Drum” and “O Holy Night,” as well as Sing-along Carols.
- Choral works by Kodaly, Cornelius and Mendelssohn and even a Gregorian Chant
- An organ work by Messiaen and a piano arrangement by Dave Brubeck.
The concert will take place on Friday, 7 December, at 8 PM in the beautiful sanctuary of Christ Church, located at the corner of Convent Road and Sathorn Nua. It is a short 5-7 minute walk from the BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Silom Stations, or tut-tuks or motorcycles can be utilized.
Be sure to come to hear the Choir under the direction of our new conductor, Michael Rassinger from the RIS Swiss School, with Dan Golden at the piano and organ.
The BMS is proud to have support for this concert from Decor Mart Design Center, PTTEP, Bangkok Patana School, Shrewsbury International School and New International School of Thailand.
